Meet Tim & Sonya

Terra. Earth or land. Stay. To take pause, to be still.
TerraStay already had its name when we first set eyes on it, and we loved how perfectly it fit our vision for this place. It wasn't until much later that we noticed our own initials were hidden right there inside it: Tim and Sonya. T and S. TerraStay. It’s just one of a dozen small, quiet moments that reminded us we didn't land here by accident. The longer we live on this land, the less we believe in coincidence, and the more we see a divine hand guiding our steps.
How We Got Here
When we met 17 years ago, our lives looked very different. Tim was navigating an intense, high-stakes career as a plain-clothes detective, doing serious service-driven work. Sonya was building a career in wine, hospitality, and corporate operations, holding degrees in biology, nutrition, and chemistry.
What drew us together from our very first meeting at a local farmers market was a shared energy and a love for living life fully. Tim brought a natural sense of adventure, steadiness, and heart. Sonya brought vision, a love for hospitality, and a deep interest in how food, nutrition, and chemistry bring people together—skills that turned out to be far better suited for farm dinners, fermentation, and community health than a corporate desk.
For years, Sonya carried a quiet prayer in her heart: she wanted Tim safe at home. As his retirement approached after decades in law enforcement, we sat on our porch one evening and floated a dream out loud: What if we bought a farm?
A Story of Divine Design
When we found this property, the math simply didn't add up. On paper, buying it was impossible for us, and the financial hurdles felt overwhelming. But remembering a simple truth—that we have no business telling God what can or cannot be done—Sonya prayed a straightforward prayer: If this is Your will, You’ll find the finances.
Four minutes later, the farm's owner, Tony, offered a series of solutions so miraculous they left us speechless—from low-cost lease structures to owner-financing that made the dream viable right then and there. It wasn't luck. It was grace, provision, and a clear call to steward this land for something bigger than ourselves.
We moved in while both still working full-time, rolling up our sleeves to bring TerraStay to life.
Life on the Farm Today
Today, Tim has traded search warrants and trash pulls for early mornings in the barn, quiet sunrise coffee with scripture, and tending to our animals. The same steady, protective spirit that served him in law enforcement now goes into rescuing animals, helping neighbors, and harvesting fresh produce for our local food bank, SAFE.
And then, of course, there’s Bigfoot. Tim rescued her (and her extra-toed paws!) off the side of the highway on a rainy night. Though he insisted we weren't keeping her, his heart outvoted him. These days, Bigfoot is thick as thieves with Tim, spending her mornings side-by-side with him in the barn and greeting farm guests.
Your Space to Unplug
We intentionally built TerraStay to be a sanctuary—a place where you can step away from the noise, breathe clean air, and reconnect with what matters. Our guest cabins are deliberately unplugged and EMF-conscious, crafted for grounded, outdoorsy souls who appreciate simplicity, real food, and genuine hospitality.
Whether you're here to sit by a campfire, meet the sheep, share a conversation, or simply enjoy a restful night of deep sleep in the quiet country, our door is open.
Welcome to TerraStay. We’re so glad you’re here.
